UMT OPEN WATER DIVING COURSE IIUM SCUBA CLUB (1st batch)

Seven members of IIUM Scuba Club leave from IIUM to UMT.

· 10^th OCTOBER 2009

We arrive at UMT at 6.30 a.m. After performing Subuh prayer and resting, we leave to Pulau Bidong along with UMT students. All participants arrive at Pulau Bidong at 11.00a.m. There has been a short introduction of all instructors and participant involves. Participants are divided into three groups and are given in pairs. On evening, participant has been introduced to diving equipment and some basis techniques of diving. We start from a test of snorkeling for 200m. At night, theory class is held.

· 11^th OCTOBER 2009

An introduction to scuba system (Assembly and disassembly), pre dive check, regulator use, mask clear, BCD auto and oral inflation, and weight system adjustment. On the evening, the first open water session is done. At night, theory class and briefing on next activities is done.

· 12^th OCTOBER2009

We had done three open water dive session on this day. While we are underwater, there are several skills completed. The skills are control descent, equalization technique, mask removal, mask clearing,underwater swimming,hand signal,fin pivot, buddy breathing,navigation,hovering,control swimming Ascent, breahing from free flow,free descent and backroll entry. By completing the 4^th dive, we have completed the requirement for diving license. At night, final class is held and participant is given their result whether they pass or fail the course.

· 13^th OCTOBER 2009

A trip to Vietnamese village is held. At 11.00a.m, participant is sent back to UMT by boat and bus. We depart back to IIUM at 2.00p.m and arrive at the main gate at 10.00p.m.

Some info you might want to know

1. The first step to becoming a scuba diver is to have a
'scuba diving license'

2. To get the license there would be a pool session
once where you will learn the basics to swim and enjoy the water

3. Then your journey will continue on an island for 3
days where you enjoy real life diving

4. When all is done, you get a diving license card
which is valid for a lifetime and you are certified to
dive anywhere in the world

5.If you have acquired your license, you are called leisure
divers and you could do leisure dives (fun diving)
